A Florida dad and his infant son have survived a wrong-way, head-on car crash that killed three members of their family.

The Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release obtained by PEOPLE that the crash occurred on Sunday, March 16, just before 3 p.m. local time in Osceola County.

Officials said a Ford F-150 truck was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Kenansville Road north of Yates Ranch Road. Driving the wrong way, the truck came into the immediate path of a Toyota RAV-4 SUV carrying five people.

The two vehicles collided, authorities added, and the SUV ran off the road and overturned upon impact.

The department said three people from the SUV were pronounced dead. The department later identified them as Pragathi Reddy Velivarthi, 34, Sunitha Purumandla, 56, and Harveen Purumandla, 5, NBC affiliate WESH reported.

Authorities said the SUV’s driver, a 34-year-old man from Orlando, and a 9-month-old baby were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. A GoFundMe fundraiser identified the surviving adult as Rohith Purumandla and the infant as his son.

In addition, the pickup truck driver, a 30-year-old man, went to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

FHP Trooper Migdalisis Garcia told WESH that authorities are still determining why the pickup truck allegedly went the wrong way, adding that the driver has not been arrested or facing charges — though that could change during their investigation.

“We do have witnesses that saw he was possibly passing traffic, however he never merged back onto the correct lane,” Garcia said.

The GoFundMe, which has raised over $100,000 for the family as of Friday, March 21, stated that Rohith “now faces a life without his mother and the warmth of family.”

“In addition to the heartbreaking loss, Rohith is also dealing with a collarbone fracture, further complicating his ability to manage day-to-day needs and care for his son," the organizer wrote.

They added, "The family is facing significant costs, including bringing family from abroad for the memorial, paying out-of-coverage medical bills, and the financial strain of raising a child as a single parent.”

PEOPLE contacted the GoFundMe organizer for additional information on Friday.
